This site is meant to be a source of information for those who served aboard the

USS L. Y. Spear and their families.  We feel it is very important to have as much input from those who were involved with the ship and to have that information posted on this site.

If you have any information about the Spear or her crew, or would like to submit photos or other memorabilia, please contact the webmaster.

We will post all pertinent information as soon as possible.

News & Events

2008 USS L. Y. SPEAR Reunion!

Plans are now being made for our 2008 reunion to be held in our nation's capital, Washington DC!  This promises to be the best reunion to date and is scheduled to begin on Thursday, October 16th, concluding with a banquet on Sunday, October 19th.  Click on the Reunions link for information.  Hurry and reserve your room before they sell out!  We hope to see you there!

Our 2007 reunion is officially "in the books" and what a GREAT time we all had in Charleston!  New friendships were made and old ones rekindled as we laughed and shared stories of our time onboard.  If you weren't able to make our reunion this year, you missed a special presentation to the SPEAR crew by the hotel staff, you don't know "who did it", and you didn't hear what one of our plank owners forgot to pack!  To see some pictures from our reunion, click here.

Status of the SPEAR

On September 21, 2007, the SPEAR's status on the Naval Vessel Register (NVR) changed from "Stricken, to be disposed of by scrapping" to "Stricken, to be disposed of."  Have they changed their minds about scrapping our ship?  We'll dig deeper into this mystery and post our findings here!
