I met Mr. Guiao after he came aboard at Diego Garcia one duty night. I noticed that he was very down to earth, and probably a great guy to work for. One thing that I do remember, is that he said to me one duty night, that I made him laugh. Everytime that I saw him on the ship, we always said hello and had a short conversation. On that tragic morning, I was sleeping after having duty the night before. All the camotion going on woke me up, and I found out the tragic news later on, what had happened. It was a beautiful day outside, but yet, a very tragic day. I found out about the devasting details later on from many friends. This was an accident that should have never happened. I rode the USS LY Spear from Norfolk to Diego Garcia, but I left the US Navy in June 1980, so I never rode it back on the return trip. My Prayers and Thoughts have always gone out to him and his family. I can still remember to this day, that smile I put on his face on duty nights. Feel Free To Email Me At: RythemGuitarMan1@AOL.COM
