Membership of the USS L. Y. SPEAR (AS-36) Association is available, as follows:

Membership

Any officer or enlisted personnel who received official orders, either Permanent Change of Station or Temporary Duty, and who served honorably aboard the USS L. Y. Spear is eligible to apply for and be accepted as a member of the Association.  Membership in this category may be as a "Regular" or "Life" Member. 

Regular Association dues are $20.00 for the first year of membership (this is to offset the cost of the initial membership packet to new members), with subsequent years at $10.00 per year.  Regular members may pay for up to two years in advance along with their initial or renewal payment.  Regular membership expires at the 1 year anniversary of your membership becoming effective, depending on how many years you paid for at the time of application. 

Life membership will be set at a one-time payment of $150.00.  The membership dues are used to cover expenses associated with the actual running of the Association, such as newsletters, mailing expenses, and the operation of the Association website. 

All former Commanding Officers of the USS L. Y. Spear are eligible for and will receive all benefits of Life Membership, with their Association dues being waived.

Regular Membership

• Receive all Association Newsletters and updates.
• Access to home addresses, email addresses, and telephone numbers of membership
• Attend reunions (and bring your spouse and/or guests)
• Voting privileges of Association elections and issues

Life Membership

• $150 Life Membership (you will not be required to pay dues annually)
• Life Membership Certificate (8 ½ x 11)  VIEW

• Life Membership Lapel Pin  VIEW
• Receive all Association Newsletters and updates.
• Access to home addresses, email addresses, and telephone numbers of membership
• Attend reunions (and bring your spouse and/or guests)
• Voting privileges of Association elections and issues

Honorary Life Membership

The spouse or descendants of any deceased USS L. Y. Spear veteran may be awarded an Honorary Membership.  Other Honorary Memberships may be awarded as recommended by the Executive Board, or any other Association member, and with the approval of the Executive Board.  Honorary Life Members will not have the right to cast a vote in Association business or be eligible to hold office.  Dues are waived for Honorary Life Membership.

Associate Membership

Any individual who is of good standing in their community or who is sponsored by an Association member may apply for Associate Membership.  Associate Members will not have the right to cast a vote in Association business or be eligible to hold office.
